Nesting for Rest, Clarity and Confident Action Planning

As we Northern Hemisphere folk slowly move through winter, I want to invite you to embrace a beautiful practice that can bring a sense of comfort, control, and renewal to your life – nesting.
I view it as a valuable part of our midwinter rituals as we emerge, rather than bounce, into the new year. Rather than focusing on setting new goals right away, nesting allows us to consolidate, rest, gain clarity, and build confidence before taking action.
I love it so much I put together a short podcast episode on it that you can catch here.
Psychological Safety Comes with Nesting
Nesting involves arranging our surroundings, both physical and mental, to create a sense of security and order. It’s a process of systematically arranging objects and ideas, instinctively done to protect ourselves and increase our sense of home and security. Much like how parents create a safe nest for their young, we, too, can create a nurturing environment for our dreams and goals.
Clarity and Perspective Come with Nesting
Through the process of nesting, we can gain clarity about different areas of our lives, take stock of our progress, and decide what to take forward into the new year. This clarity leads to a deeper understanding of where our confidence lies and where it may need nurturing. Only after these steps are completed do we move into action, creating lists of what to do now, what to do next, and what we are not doing this year.
Indulge Yourself! Nesting Feels Luxurious
I encourage you to take the time to engage in nesting as we navigate the transition into a new year. Consider joining me in this practice of self-reflection, as we consolidate, gain clarity, build confidence, and eventually take action with purpose and intention.
